What happened:  plbtrec is advertising a website that claims to help people recover lost crypto. This website is particularly targeting people who probably lost money in the Polybius ICO

I suspect their target is to collect user information and IDs so they can later use them to make claims. Please do not trust polybiusrecovery.com

ItÂs not just in collecting the victims' details some go beyond that; based on the other scam recovery patterns I have seen from them, some are active in trying to convince the scammed victims that they are part of a recovery team that can help them get their money back through legal action and will convince the victim to pay some money to help them process their request. Scamming those who have been scammed already, those scammers donÂt even have a single conscience in them at all.

Even though they say, "We never ask for seed phrases, private keys, wallet access, or upfront crypto payment." They also state, "We are paid only if participating claimants recover." and that recovery is not guaranteed.

Even though everything they have written is a good indicator, the fact that their domain is only two months old and that they require complete full identity verification and proof of address, as OP warned, the risk may come in.

There is also no indication of the credibility of this website, or any feedback from previous clients who successfully recovered their assets. Also, taking 1/3 of the recovered amount is a very high percentage. 

They also acknowledge that filing through government agencies would be completely free, so there is no good reason to pay them.

There is no upfront cost for recovery but if a successful claim gets paid for the recovery, they're getting 1/3 of the refund. It's best for them to show how many have been recovered and got helped successful. Otherwise, it's a fishing expedition to have more of the information of the victims.

This is the magic trick they've said.

This is true because blockchain transactions cannot be reversed. However, things are different when you get scammed through a large investment project that has a team operating it. In that case, you can simply file a report with the the appropriate authorities and provide evidence. These authorities can investigate what happened and may be able to track down and arrest the scammers and even recover some or all of the assets through a court order, although this is certainly not guaranteed.

There are also a large number of asset-recovery platforms and people offering these services who are, in many cases, scammers too. They may scam the victim a second time without helping them, so, it would be best to avoid them altogether.

Yeah, the unfortunate same old story. Trying to squeeze even more money out of people that already lost a bunch. We have seen this even in this forum where people offer their help at some scam accusation issue, but they expect payment for it, upfront of course. Out of desperation some people fall for this and just lose even more.
Everybody that would know a bit about how crypto transactions work obviously wouldn't fall for this, unfortunately still the majority of people is not educated enough in this subject, despite dealing with real money here.

I received the stupid PM of a scammer. There is nothing sensitive in the message, so I will quote the PM here
