Exchange: HitBTC
Ticket Number: #1670599
Issue: Infinite SoF loop, demanding impossible documents from a sanctioned platform, ignoring Account Offboarding requests.

Hello everyone,

I am posting this to warn the community about HitBTC’s predatory compliance practices. I am a fully KYC-verified user on HitBTC. I have a small remaining balance of $548 USDT. Recently, HitBTC blocked my withdrawals and requested a Source of Funds (SoF) report with precise transaction hashes for LTC and BTC deposits I made back in 2020.

The Issue:
These funds were acquired and transferred via WebMoney. As many are aware, WebMoney was officially sanctioned, blocked, and forced to cease all operations in my country years ago. User dashboards and transaction histories are permanently destroyed/inaccessible. It is physically impossible to log in and get the withdrawal screenshots they want.

What I provided:
I provided the only surviving evidence: official, unedited email receipts from WebMoney showing my exact crypto purchases (WMX and WML) matching my verified KYC name.

The Support Loop:
HitBTC's automated support bots reject this. They state that since I can't provide platform screenshots, I must provide "withdrawal emails for those specific hashes". I already explained multiple times that 5-year-old withdrawal emails from a dead platform do not exist in my inbox.

Offboarding Denied:
Realizing this is a dead end, I formally requested Account Offboarding (to permanently close my account and manually withdraw my remaining $548). HitBTC support completely ignored this legal request and just sent the exact same copy-paste template asking for the impossible withdrawal emails again.

They are purposely holding my funds hostage using impossible requirements from a defunct platform. This is a warning to anyone using HitBTC.

HitBTC reps, please escalate my ticket #1670599 to a human compliance officer and process my offboarding immediately.

Evidence:
    My KYC Verified Status:
My Offboarding request explaining the dead platform:
HitBTC ignoring the offboarding request with a bot template:

Hey, sorry to hear about this. They already have a bad reputation on this forum: they “selective” pick users and scam them. I don’t think there’s much chance of recovering your funds from this exchange once they lock you out.

HitBTC has been known as a scam exchange on this forum for years; your thread serves not so much as a warning, but rather as yet another collection of stories about account freezes that will never be resolved.

HitBTC reps, please escalate my ticket #1670599 to a human compliance officer and process my offboarding immediately.

I don't recall if they have a representative here, but even if they do, they abandoned the account long ago.

Thanks Trêvoid and everyone for the input and links.

Yeah, I’ve seen similar stories while researching this issue. It’s really frustrating to see an exchange operate this way for years, using defunct platforms as a trap to freeze funds. Even if their official representatives abandoned this forum, I have submitted a new formal ticket directly via their Legal/Account Closure division regarding ticket #1670599, explicitly referencing this public thread. I am keeping this thread active so anyone searching for HitBTC reviews or dealing with WebMoney/SoF issues can see exactly how they handle KYC-verified accounts and offboarding requests. I will post updates here as soon as I get a response on the new ticket.

That infinite KYC loop is a common trait seen in different complaints about HitBTC, so I am not even surprised. What surprises me is why you have been using them for all that time even though such complaints have been there for several years.

The aim of the impossible-to-fulfill KYC is so you can eventually give up, and then they will start deducting your crypto periodically as some maintenance fee when your account becomes inactive until the entire amount left in the account is no more.

It’s been many years that almost everyone knows HitBTC, one of the scam exchanges. Once upon a time, I had an account there; for some coins, I have used it. I had some tokens that I tried to sell there, but due to no liquidity, I failed to sell, and I never backed the exchange. Probably some free tokens I have gotten that were listed on there only.

Everything looked suspicious to me. Sorry for your loss, and I am wondering how you discovered HitBTC for trading. Unfortunately, your funds are gone; as far as I know, they don’t usually help their users through the support system. Hope others will take lessons from here.

The story ends to me the moment you said the evidence is processed by bots.  I can not imagine how that would work as it is often very easy for a bot to either falsely believe a forged evidence or refuse actual legitimate evidence.

Once you are done with this platform, which I really do hope you can in a good way as in getting your Bitcoin back, I have the hope that you will look for no Know Your Customer platforms and use these in the future particularly to avoid similar problems.  Know Your Customer is only great in theory.  In practice, it is often abusive and even dangerous.  Situations like you describe are the usual scamming method using Know Your Customer.  Keep asking until the customer gives up.

It always surprises me when I see people coming here complain about exchanges that's been known for scammy behaviour for years. Like don't you people follow closely what's been going on with exchanges that you use and where you have money?

Sorry for your loss, and I am wondering how you discovered HitBTC for trading.

My guess is that OP used HitBTC for quite some time, when they were somewhat less scammy (or at least less known to be scammy).

It's been a while since I have seen a new scam accusation against HitBTC, not because they changed or they improved the service, but because I thought people finally stopped using their service. But it seems there are still users who have funds in this terrible exchange. As far as I knew, they do it selectively and scam large amounts of money.

I don't understand why they would scam someone for $548. This is not a big amount. Or they are probably thinking, since the user is not coming back anymore, we won't let him withdraw his last money. There might be other reasons. Centralized exchanges like Binance, Bybit, and a few more are dominating the market these days. HitBTC's last 24-hour volume is 5.71 BTC in Bitcoin, which is pretty low. This indicates that they are losing customers. I am sorry for you, OP. I hope you can get out of this.

Thanks for all the comments and insights, guys.

To clear things up: I’ve actually been using HitBTC for many years, back when they were considered a normal platform. I didn't trade there actively recently, but less than a year ago I successfully withdrew a significantly larger amount from my account without any issues at all.

That’s why I didn't expect to run into a complete wall over a small remaining balance of $548. It seems they selectively trigger these automated SoF/KYC traps on specific transactions, expecting users to give up after getting stuck with dead/sanctioned platforms like WebMoney.

Still waiting for a response on my escalated ticket submitted through the Legal/Account Closure department.

Thank God you were lucky to get the larger amount out without any problems. That is selective scamming, and it is not just HitBTC that is guilty of this, there are a lot of exchanges that the community have flagged for being notorious for this, E.G. ChangeNow, N.Exchange, etc. They don't come all out stealing from everybody, because they know that would signal the end of their platform, so they systematically process some withdrawals just fine and steal from the unlucky ones, like you.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that, but good luck.

I’m using Hitbtc before to trade my shitcoins that I earned through bounty campaigns since it was very popular mid tier exchange before to list new shitcoins.

They become shit exchange after their Dogecoin listing loophole that doesn’t fixed for a long time to trap user $DOGE that purchased on cheap price.

I’m surprised that you still managed to use it properly few years ago because the last time I use it properly is during altcoin season last 2017 to 2018.

Exchanges generally change and it is very rare that they change in a positive way.  What you are referring to is a 'Shotgun Know Your Customer' used as a trap.  Well.  I would say Know Your Customer is generally a trap.  But you would think they do this for a LOT more money than only half a thousand, but it is what it is.
