People have so much to wager on gambling that even if they spend some million dollars they don't care as you said but they are also winning out cash prizes and some huge and small profits along with it because you don't only loose while gambling as the probability is same so they might be getting back some percentage in form of profits so they don't actually care a lot about it.They are rich to use big capital for gambling and wagering but they have good skills to manage that they wager with bets and don't end with losses on their side.So all in all, we have some great rich people who gamble here as well but at the top we have someone who is wealthy. Total wagering amount does not make sense if they get too many losses with their bets. I am sure those gamblers who win Wager contest are smart enough to know how to get safety for their capital. They join Wager contest to win it and take money so obviously they don't gamble to lose.
Sum up, to win in Wager contest, you need both big capital and good gambling skills.
We never know what really happened there whether he wins or loses no one knows, no need to be surprised to see someone keep on gambling with millions of dollars as if he never ran out of money there are many ways to do it.
